People with attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) have so many positive qualities and at Charisma Psychology, your strengths are recognised to be as important as your challenges.
Sadly, for many people who live with ADHD especially those who do not yet have a diagnosis, life can be very difficult.
For this reason, diagnosis is vital in helping people both understand themselves, and seek out the right kind of support or treatment for them.
What to expect from an ADHD assessment?
Pre-screening questionnaires
Prior to the appointment we would like to find out some information about you, this will be done through a series of questionnaires.
Comprehensive Adult ADHD assessment
This will include a detailed evaluation of your reasons for seeking assessment and a review of your psychiatric and medical history. The assessment follows the guidelines provided by the National Institute for health and Care Excellence (NICE). It also includes a semi-structured diagnostic interview (Young DVIA or DIVA-5). You will receive feedback on the assessment and treatment options will be discussed.
An in-depth Assessment Report
You will receive a detailed assessment report, placing your patterns and experiences alongside the diagnostic criterion to demonstrate evidence for any diagnosis given.

Psychological Therapy following ADHD diagnosis
Diagnosis (and where relevant medication) is rarely the end of the process for adults and older teenagers diagnosed with ADHD. There is a lot to make sense of! Living with undiagnosed ADHD almost always causes people to develop negative thoughts about themselves that don’t immediately change after a diagnosis. In addition, difficulties with time management, organisation, planning, relationships and emotional regulation can continue and benefit from some improved understanding and support.
For many people with a late diagnosis of ADHD, they have also developed concurrent psychological difficulties, such as anxiety and depression. Others may have developed harmful coping strategies such as addictions, that have led to significant negative consequences in their lives.
Whether you require a single session to help adjust to your new diagnosis or a block of therapy to help treat co-occurring conditions that have developed alongside your ADHD, contact Charisma below to help start your journey today.
